Green canopies/Urban Eco-nooks for enhancing urban biodiversity and air purification

The Green Canopy/Urban Eco-nook initiative of the Thane Municipality's Pollution Control Department is exemplary in the direction of improving city air and biodiversity and making pavements shaded and more pedestrian-friendly. With help from the environmental consultancy firm TerraNero, 11 green canopies have been erected over pavements along the Ghodbunder Road. Citizens have highly appreciated the initiative, and can often be found sitting on benches under the canopies. Birds have built their nests among these urban eco-nooks and butterflies have flitted amongst them, making this a successful socio-ecological project.
